Rockstar Vancouver has taken Remedy's child and succeeded in delivering a gritty, fast-paced shooter, while staying true to the Max Payne series.
Skullgirls is a gorgeous indie fighting game that leads to countless intense battles. Alex Ahad and Reverge Labs created this world featuring eight zany girls like a classic cartoon-style robot that uses outdated internet references as part of her attacks, and a busty circus performer that has a hat with two muscular arms that grapples her opponents.Skullgirlsrevolutionizes fighting games with its own dynamic style and mechanics that will hopefully be a set standard of many upcoming fighting games.
Do you like zombies? Do you like tension? Do you like a gripping, comic book style video game? THEN LOOK NO FURTHER!
The Walking Dead: The Game is, in my opinion, the epitome of survival horror. Telltale Games has released a game that defines horror and the zombie apocalypse. Robert Kirkman's gripping zombie story was first made famous through comic books, then the Emmy award winning show on AMC, and is now this fantastic arcade game available everywhere.
Kid Icarus has come a long ways since the NES days. After Pit was essentially teased in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, fans were likely to wonder if there ever would be a revamp of the classic Nintendo series. Luckily, Masahiro Sakurai came through with this epic 3DS title that will prove to be one of the quintessential blockbusters for the Nintendo 3DS.
The Mass Effect Franchise is nothing to scoff at. The universe created by Bioware is immense, crafting in immense amounts of lore and legend, nary rivaled by other games. Already spending 75 hours with the franchise I went in with incredibly high expectations, nothing less could ever be expected from a Mass Effect game, let alone a Bioware game. The game met my expectations head on, providing an experience that was epic and it felt like it too. This third installment proves that the Mass Effect “experiment” was a success.
If you've read my preview, then you know how excited I was to play the full version of Asura's Wrath. Indeed, Capcom and CyberConnect2 have delivered quite a few decent punches, whether all six arms succeeded or not.
Uncharted: Golden Abyss presents itself as a prequel to the original Uncharted game, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune. The events of Golden Abyss take place before Nathan Drake saves the world (on multiple occasions) from cursed treasures in dangerous lost colonies. So at this point in time, Drake is just a good, ol' fashion treasure hunter and tomb raider. As boring as that sounds, though, it actually works for Drake's first adventure on the Vita.
After years worth of rumors and months of anticipation and hype, the PlayStation Vita has arrived. I've had my hands on the Vita for about a week now, and it hasn't disappointed me yet.
Patience, Praetor……
First off, if you are just a first person shooter junky who goes straight to the online death matches and never plays through the story mode, Fate/Extra is NOT the game you. I have a friend like that. Whenever he plays like a Doom 3 or any of the Half Life games, he is the type that when he comes across another character who is there to help you or advance the storyline, or any kind of cutscene for that matter, he skips it to get back to blowing stuff up, assuming that he doesn’t shoot the NPC informant outright. What’s hilarious is when this character is trying to give him some vital information such as, “The key to unlock the reinforced door to leave this area is HERE,” he’ll instead be stuck for hours until he accidentally runs across the vital item. One has to wonder how much time is lost in wandering for hours instead of listening to a minute clip. Go figure. Anyway, this is a game for those who like to read. A lot. I wouldn’t really consider myself a real patient guy, but I didn’t have a problem with this game. However, it will require a certain amount of patience.
The Legend of Zelda Goes Skyward
The next Legend of Zelda, the second of which for the Wii, was announced at E3 2009. The trailer depicted the major players surveying the vast open field the night before the fateful battle. Then it cuts to the next morning where you see the opposing armies marching towards each other. None of which made it into the final game by the way. At the end it has “2009”. Ah, the ever vague release date. Being a Zelda fan, I would often check back for updates. It eventually listed “Holiday 2009,” and the 2009 Holiday came and went. Then this game was brought up again at E3 2010. This time there was actual gameplay, showing the roving beetle tool, again insinuating that it would be out later in the year. Around October, they finally conceded that it was going to now be out in 2011. First it was April 2011, which came and went, then the vague Fall 2011, and eventually we got the November date upon which they delivered said promised game. So the question that begs to be asked is: was it worth the wait? Hell, yeah!!!!!!!
What happens when a 3D and 2D Mario game make love in the back of your 3DS? You get to play Super Mario 3D Land. Mario is still moving towards a goal on a 2D plane, but there is depth added, so you have a vertical plane in addition to the traditional horizontal plane. This mechanic, bundled in with 3D viewing experience, makes this game unlike any others, but is the change for the better?
Here at GameDwellers, we believe in a 5-point system, or "stars." We don't want to become too specific with our scores, because in the end, the reader just wants to know if the game is great, good, okay, bad, or horrible. That is kind of hard to do when you give the game a score of 68.8257300929724. You feel us?
5 Stars - Can't Get Enough
Excellent story. Flawless game play. Couldn't ask for better.
4 Stars - Definitely Playable
Great story. Wonderful mechanics. Small problems, but hardly noticeable.
3 Stars - Might Want to Rent
Mediocre story. Minor glitches. Potential for greatness just wasn't met.
2 Stars - What happened there?
Laughable story. Awkward gameplay. It may be a playable game, but it's not worth your time.
1 Star - Bottom-Dweller
Poor writing. Horrible mechanics. Glitches are prominent. Someone fell asleep on the job...
