A while back, we reported on Hawken, an indie mech-game developed by Adhesive Games. Pax 2011 was the last time that I heard anything about the game. But according to Hawken's website, the game now has a release date of December 12, 2012 and an upcoming closed multiplayer beta.

Hawken is a free-to-play, browser based, multiplayer game that sports some pretty nice graphics. It definitely eschews the normal 16-bit indie art-style. Initially Hawken will launch with two modes: team deathmatch and free-for-all deathmatch. The developers are planing on following a common free-to-play models by allowing players to play all they want for free, but also giving players the option to pay for higher levels of mech customization.
